Are you a woman with car trouble? Ever had to deal with car mechanics? How did they treat you? I do not know the best way to describe my exasperating experience with car mechanics. This will explain why.

They say we women do not know much about cars so car mechanics take advantage of us. This proved true in my case. Ponder this.

Wm vs MchsA few months ago, l took my car for servicing at a well known high street auto servicing company. Everything went smoothly and after the car servicing, the company rep (mechanic) told me l had a lovely car with a sound engine. πŸ˜ƒ

However, the only problem with my car (according to him), were the tyres. He advised me to replace two of my tyres with new ones and proceeded to tell me about the tyres they had for sale. I believed him and promised to return at a later date for the tyres. l failed to notice at the time that he did not point out the two bad tyres. πŸ™ƒ

I felt l could get the tyres cheaper so l went looking for a better bargain. At the first tyre shop l went to, l was asked to point out the two bad tyres and l simply said, β€œAll l know is that two of them are bad.” How silly l must have sounded! πŸ™ˆ How ignorant is that! (Don’t laugh). The shop quoted an even higher price for the tyres so l declined and went somewhere else.😏

When l arrived at the second tyre shop, l was very lucky to meet a Nigerian gentleman who was also there to buy tyres. He listened to the conversation l was having with the seller about the tyres and came over.

He asked me why l needed new tyres. Again l was asked to point out the tyres that needed replacing and of course l couldn’t. πŸ€¦πŸ½β€β™€οΈ I simply told him all l knew and he shook his head in surprise. The tyre seller was surprised too. They told me my tyres were in very good condition and do not have to be replaced. Huh! πŸ˜±

I guess you can only imagine my incredible surprise. πŸ˜³ I was shocked but in a good way because these lovely men just saved me money. Yay! πŸ’ƒπŸ½ Tyres are not cheap. Thank God for them. If l had met another dodgy mechanic that day l would have bought tyres l did not need.

As many of my female friends confirmed, they have been hoodwinked by mechanics several times. I left that shop, determined to learn all l could about road-worthy tyres and cars in general. I shall not let any mechanic take advantage of my ignorance about cars anymore. πŸ’ͺ🏽

So ladies if you drive a car and you do not know much about how things work, you may learn a thing or two from my experience and become well-informed. Alternatively, simply seek a second opinion from an informed but good natured/honest source, if you do not trust your mechanic.

I will do that going forward. πŸ˜Ž

Ciao!
