A Day in My Utopia

Ever had one of those days when everything is just perfect and everyone is amazing? I was lucky to have one of those. I do not only cherish them but I have blogged about it here because such days do not come around often. Is this what Utopia feels like?

Eutopia pic 1Unexpectedly, something nice happened on my commute to work this morning that renewed my faith in chivalry once more. What a pleasant surprise, eh! ?l had an encounter with an awful man on the train this year which convinced me chivalry was dead. He ‘fought’ over a seat on a train with a woman.

Yes HE DID! *Shock horror* ? Anyway back to my narrative.

I was rushing to get into a lift, which would take me from the train platform to the exit. The lift was quite full and instead of trying to squeeze myself in, l decided to wait for the next one. The passengers asked me to get in and l smiled and shook my head to decline.

Then a man rushed in and was able to squeeze himself in nicely. When he turned round, he saw me standing in front of the lift.     “Do you want to get in? He asked me.

“Before l could decline once more, he said “Come on”.

To my surprise, he got out of the lift, giving up his spot for me. I accepted it gratefully.

“Thanks” l said to the lovely man.

As the lift doors closed, a man standing beside me started a conversation about what just happened.

“That guy is a real gentleman”

“Yes”. l said

Since we were inside a lift, everyone heard him and they smiled and nodded in agreement.

“I wouldn’t have done that I think” continued ‘Mr ChattyMan’. laughing loudly and we all joined in.

Hmmm….. how is that funny? I thought to myself. He just admitted he isn’t a gentleman or chivalrous. Well at least he is being honest. That must be it.

I simply grinned. I wasn’t sure how to respond to that since l didn’t know who he was. So l kept schtum.?

“I thought chivalry was almost dead these days” He continued.

“I thought so too.” I completely agreed with him.

“He’s a gentleman..” sighed ‘Mr ChattyMan’.

“Yes he is” l agreed. The lift doors opened and we all dispersed, off to our various destinations. I smiled as l walked down to the next train station, basking in the euphoria of the chivalrous action that has just been bestowed upon me. I walked on and completely forgot to touch in with my debit card to pay for my next journey.

As l am standing writing this, inside my second train to work, an elderly man offered me a seat on the train.

“Are you sure? “ I asked?

“Yes of course” he said.

What is happening today? Why are these men being so nice all of a sudden?. Do they think I am pregnant or something? ?I suspect so because l have a thick coat on as well as a big fur trimmed wrap, covering the top half of my body. Yep! I definitely could pass for a pregnant woman right now. ??

Hehehe! ? As if! Nooooooo! that’s not it. I think today is just one of those days when l meet nice strangers. People can be incredibly nice when they want to be. They surprise us all the time!?

To buttress this point even further. I got to the exit and it was then l remembered l did not pay for my journey before l got on the train. I knew if l touched in now with my card, l would be charged double the fare.

Therefore, l decided to explain to the elderly officer manning the station exit. I explained how l forgot to touch in at the last station. Wesley, (that was the name on his name badge) did something unbelievably nice for me. He let me go through the exit without touching-in. All he said was “that’s ok”.

Huh! ? He did not reprimand me or ‘tell me off’ for not paying for my journey.

Wow! ? l was so surprised and glad that l must have said thank you about three times. Yay! ?? A free ride on the train. I was allowed to get off without paying! It rarely happens and has never happened to me. Unbelievable! I was having the best day ever. ?

I love days like this. Such a great start to the day for me, despite the miserable weather.

It makes me think that from here on out, the day is going to be amazing and it definitely was.Have a fantastic weekend BEAMers!

Ciao ?
